Intel’s Acquisition of Lantiq closes

By Gregory Bryant, Corporate VP and GM Desktop Client Group

I’m excited to announce that Intel has successfully closed the acquisition of Lantiq. This acquisition enables us to extend our success in cable home gateways into DSL and fiber markets giving us full coverage of broadband access methods around the world. The teams are already developing innovative ways to create new products to benefit our customers, which we’ll share more about in the coming months.

The broader, comprehensive range of connectivity solutions and home cloud technologies we will deliver will enable global service providers, OEMs and other companies to bring new home computing experiences to market. And ultimately, we can help make people’s homes even smarter and more connected than they are today.

As excited as we are at Intel, we’re equally gratified to have received overwhelmingly positive feedback from customers who share our enthusiasm at the opportunities that the combined team will be able to pursue. I’d like to share some of the fantastic comments we’ve received from a few of our valued operators and OEMs.

  • “We’re pleased to see Intel growing their gateway business with the purchase of Lantiq. As Comcast continues to scale our networks to gigabit speeds, we look forward to having the benefit of a common architecture across multiple access technologies that shortens development time so we can quickly deliver ultra-fast broadband experiences to our customers.” - Tony Werner, EVP & CTO, Comcast Cable
  • “We’re glad to see Intel expanding their portfolio of technologies with the Lantiq acquisition. The combined group will be a leading supplier for broadband technologies with a comprehensive range of solutions to help us deliver ever faster connectivity to our customers. Congratulations!” - Balan Nair, EVP & CTO, Liberty Global
  • “We believe this is a great next step for Lantiq to becoming one of the broadest and best equipped providers for bringing all means of broadband technologies to Telefonica customers around the world. It’s a win-win situation for Lantiq, Intel and the customers to get leading edge, end-to-end broadband solutions. We are excited to continue our business with Lantiq, now an Intel company!” - Jose Luis Espla Gutierrez, GCTO, Fixed Access and Home Network Director, Telefonica
  • “It is good to see Intel expanding their portfolio of gateway and communications technologies for the home. We see the benefits that the combined Intel and Lantiq technologies will bring to our connected home platforms. ARRIS looks forward to continuing our productive relationship with Intel as it grows its home gateway business.” - Charles Cheever, CPE CTO, ARRIS
  • “This is a great next step for Lantiq to completing its portfolio in the connected home space. We believe that Lantiq – now an Intel company – will become one of the leading players for the broadband technologies and the smart home. We look forward to further collaborating with Lantiq to bring leading edge broadband gateways to service providers around the world.” - Ahmed Selmani, Sagemcom Broadband, Deputy CEO
